We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- This stretch runs from Kerne Bridge to the end of the wooded boundary, giving you roughly 1,000 yards of Wye bank to explore.
- The entrance is about 150 yards from Kerne Bridge, off the B4234 Ross-to-Chepstow Road. Look for the coded five-bar gate.
- It’s part of Upper Bishopswood, which the Society describes as around three quarters of a mile overall. The Kerne Lodge section is the longer stated 1,000-yard stretch.
- There’s an important access split. The water from Kerne Bridge up to the canoe launch is for Full Society Members only.
- Bishopswood-only members and day-permit holders cannot fish the section above the canoe launch. Don’t assume a general Bishopswood ticket covers every peg.
- Monday and Tuesday are unavailable to Society members, as those days were retained by the previous owners. Worth checking your diary before making the trip.
- The Society lists chub, roach, barbel and pike among the Upper Bishopswood species. A proper mixed Wye line-up, then, with plenty of variety.
- Parking is in the coded WAS car park, postcode HR9 5QX. You can park behind pegs where possible, but keep access clear and take extra care on the busy B4234.
- An honorary bailiff regularly checks the water. Keep your membership card with you and be ready to produce it if asked.
- Keep things neighbourly: don’t cast across to the opposite bank if another angler is fishing there. Fishing is rod and line only, and coarse fish must not be removed.
Methods: Fishing is by rod and line only. The checked details do not set out specific tactics, so choose your approach around the conditions and the swim on the day.

Key rules
- Monday and Tuesday fishing is unavailable to Society members because the previous owners retained those days.
- Bishopswood-only members and day-permit holders may not fish above the canoe launch.
- Anglers must produce their membership card when requested by a bailiff or member.
- Do not cast across to the opposite bank when another angler is fishing there.
- Fishing is by rod and line only.
- An Environment Agency fishing licence is required on Society waters.
- Do not remove coarse fish from Society waters.
- Dead or live coarse fish must not be used as bait.
- Barbless or micro-barbed hooks are recommended on river waters.
Coarse fishing on English rivers is closed from 15 March to 15 June inclusive. That's the law for coarse fish on rivers — it's not a club rule, and game-fishing seasons work differently.
