Lower Bishopswood (Worcester Angling Society)
Lower Bishopswood is a cracking three-quarter-mile slice of the River Wye near Ross-on-Wye and Bishopswood, run by Worcester Angling Society. Pleasant countryside, good bags of chub and roach, and some good-sized barbel starting to show — with pike in the mix too.

We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- This is a proper countryside stretch, with the Wye doing its thing through pleasant surroundings. A decent spot for a quiet day on the bank.
- The water can produce good bags of chub and roach, so there’s plenty of interest for the coarse angler.
- Good-sized barbel are reported to be appearing. Worth keeping an eye on the stronger water and likely feeding lines.
- Pike are present as well, adding a cheeky predator option when conditions suit.
- The exact swim layout and number of pegs aren’t confirmed, so expect to do a bit of looking once you’re there rather than marching straight to a numbered peg.
- For coarse fishing, trotting and feeder work are the obvious approaches to consider from the named fish stocks. Keep things tidy and fish to the conditions.
- The stretch is approximately three quarters of a mile long, giving you a fair bit of bank to explore and different bits of flow to read.
- Fishing is from dawn until dusk. No night fishing is allowed on Society waters apart from the Severn, so don’t plan a cheeky overnight session here.
- Mobile signal at Bishopswood is very poor, so sort your ticket before setting off. Day tickets must be bought before fishing.
- The £20 day ticket applies below the Walford canoe launch only. The Society no longer sells Bishopswood day tickets from Bishopswood Garage or the Inn on the Wye.
Methods: The named chub, roach and barbel make this a natural trotting and feeder sort of venue, with careful water-reading and a mobile approach likely to pay. Pike are present too, but stick to the Society’s bait and tackle rules.
