We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready

The lowdown

  • This is a proper rural Wye setting, with the National Trust’s Weir Garden sitting opposite. Lovely bit of Herefordshire scenery while you’re waiting for things to happen.
  • The beat runs for about a mile, so there’s plenty of water to spread out across. There are only four tickets available at maximum per day, keeping pressure nicely limited.
  • Expect a mix of fast and slow sections. That gives the stretch a bit of variety, whether you’re after salmon or settling in for a coarse session.
  • The riverbed is mostly gravel, and wading is described as easy. Still, the faster water deserves respect, especially when the river has a bit of extra push.
  • Coarse fishing is available, with full-day and evening tickets on offer. The evening option starts at 5pm, with half-price evening tickets available after 1pm on the day.
  • Salmon fishing is available too, including full-day and evening tickets. Evening fishing is permitted from 5pm, handy for a cheeky after-work session.
  • Access is pretty bob on for vehicles: a 4x4 can drive almost the length of the fishery. Other anglers have a 220m walk to the upper limit.
  • With both fast and slow water to choose from, it’s worth looking for the river’s changes in pace and working the suitable section for the ticket you’ve booked.
  • The stretch operates a wash-off policy, dogs aren’t allowed, and catch and release applies to all species. Don’t forget the online catch return after fishing.

Methods: Salmon and coarse fishing are both available. With fast and slow sections over a mostly gravel bed, choose the water that suits your session and take advantage of the easy wading.

Fish the club names

The club doesn't list species for this stretch, so we haven't guessed.

Key rules

  • National byelaws must be followed.
  • The beat operates a wash-off policy.
  • Dogs are not allowed.
  • Catch and release applies to all species.
  • An online catch return must be completed after fishing.

Coarse fishing on English rivers is closed from 15 March to 15 June inclusive. That's the law for coarse fish on rivers — it's not a club rule, and game-fishing seasons work differently.
