The full rundown on Orchard Place Farm Fishery

Orchard Place Farm Fishing sits on Pearsons Green Road near Paddock Wood, around 8 miles from Maidstone. It’s a proper-sized complex, with 13 lakes listed by the fishery and a decent spread of specimen, match, pleasure and course fishing. That gives you plenty of choice, whether you fancy a focused session after a proper lump or a more relaxed day with mixed species on the scorecard.

Ten of the lakes are described as carp and catfish waters, while three are set aside for match or pleasure fishing. The specimen offer is the big draw, with the fishery advertising carp to approximately 49lb or more and catfish to approximately 100lb or more. That’s serious fish, so turn up with suitable tackle, landing gear and unhooking kit rather than trying to wing it with light gear.

There are some cracking features spread around the complex. Lake 2 has five fish-holding islands and depths to about 8 feet, while Lake 4 covers approximately 4.5 acres and has two large islands. Lake 7 is the biggest at approximately 12 acres, with seven islands and two causeways. Lake 8 is roughly 7 acres with four islands, and Lake 9 is approximately 3.5 acres with several islands. On a new venue, spend a bit of time looking before casting. Watch for showing fish, patrol routes and tighter-looking water, then build the swim around what you can actually see.

Match and pleasure anglers aren’t left out either. Lake 5 is designed for match fishing and has 20 swims, Lake 6 is a larger match lake, and Lake 10 is a silver-fish lake alongside Lake 6. The complex also includes a 30-peg silver-fish lake. Reported species include tench, barbel, bream, chub, roach, rudd and perch, as well as carp and catfish, so a versatile approach could be bob on. Pack a couple of options, from a float or feeder setup for mixed fish to stronger gear if carp are the target.

The practical side looks handy for a longer session. All-weather paths run around the lakes and to individual swims, and many swims have disabled access. The main car park has toilets, a hot shower and a tackle and bait shop, while a second toilet and sink block sits between Lake 3 and Lake 4. There’s also a facilities block by Lake 7 with a microwave, fridge and washing-up facilities. Food or snack-wagon service is advertised at selected times, subject to current announcements, so bring enough grub and drinks rather than banking on it.

Specimen anglers must call the fishery and book before arrival. Coarse and pleasure anglers don’t need to book, but must report to the office first, and the fishery advises booking for weekends during peak periods. It’s open from 7am all year round, with night fishing available through the 12-hour night ticket and longer-duration tickets. Before setting off, ask which lakes are fishing best, what bait and rigs are going well, and whether there are any current swim or access points to know about. That quick chat can save a proper faff and help you get clipped up in the right area from the off.
