East Farleigh Cruising Club stretch, River Medway

East Farleigh Cruising Club is a proper deep-water Medway stretch above Teston Lock, run and maintained by Maidstone Victory Angling Society. It’s a winter bream water, with pike worth a look too.

We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready

The lowdown

  • This is two fields above Teston Lock, beyond the Teston picnic site. A short river stretch rather than a sprawling stillwater venue.
  • The bank is low and even, so it’s comfortable fishing rather than a clambering expedition. Bob on for setting up and moving between swims.
  • The water is deep, with well over 10 feet reported in places. That gives you some serious depth to work with, especially through the colder months.
  • Winter bream are the headline target here. A feeder approach is the obvious starting point, looking for the deeper areas and any steadier water.
  • Pike are also worth investigating. The club reports fish over 25 pounds from the Medway, so this isn’t somewhere to overlook if you fancy a cheeky predator session.
  • The stretch sits on the navigable middle Medway around Teston Lock. Expect proper river water rather than a neat, uniform lake.
  • Access is available from mid-October onwards. The club recommends using the picnic-site car park, then walking from the car park opposite the entrance.
  • The walk to the fishing is described as worthwhile. Once there, the even bank should make a winter session fairly comfortable, even when the weather’s doing its worst.
  • Maidstone Victory Angling Society has the access and maintains the stretch. It’s distinct from the club’s separately listed Barming, Teston Picnic Park and other Medway waters.
  • We're not sure on ticket prices for this one — check with the club or local regulations before you leave.

Methods: For winter bream, a feeder aimed at the deeper water is the natural shout. Pike are worth investigating too, with the Medway’s reported big fish making proper tackle and a sensible approach worthwhile.
