The full rundown on Mill Farm Fishery

Mill Farm Fishery sits at Mill Farm Leisure on Wrangle Bank, Wrangle, near Boston. It’s a private coarse-fishing lake, reserved for guests staying in the site’s accommodation. So, no standalone day tickets here — fishing comes as part of the stay.

The lake is approximately 1 acre, with depths running from around 1.5ft down to 9ft. It was excavated in 2003 and holds carp, tench, perch, rudd and roach. Some of the carp are claimed to weigh more than 20lb, giving the place a decent bit of lump potential for a small lake.

Lakeside Lodges have their own private fishing platforms, and Willow Lodge has its own platform too. Guests staying in the other cottages and lodges can use the designated spare pegs, although these are limited and normally restricted to one peg per cottage. Handy enough, but it’s worth checking the setup when booking rather than assuming there’ll be a whole bank to yourself.

The fishing is permitted from dawn until dusk throughout the year for guests, subject to the site rules. Night fishing is prohibited, so this is very much a daylight-water job. A valid Environment Agency rod licence is required, and all fishing must be from the designated platforms or pegs.

Tackle rules are nicely clear but need sticking to. Barbless hooks only, maximum size 8, with a minimum 6lb breaking strain for rod-and-reel fishing. Lighter pole rigs can be used for the smaller species. You can fish two rods per person, but rods must not be left unattended. Fixed leads, braided line, braided hook lengths, bait boats and audible bite alarms are all off the menu.

Bait-wise, permitted options include maggots, caster, hook paste, pellets, sweetcorn, bread and luncheon meat. Only Mill Farm Leisure carp pellets may be used for loose feeding, with on-site pellets costing £3 per kilogram when available. Boilies, nuts, artificial baits, pop-ups, wafters, hemp, tares and several other bait options are prohibited, so pack with the rules in mind and avoid a last-minute faff.

Fish must be returned immediately, with keepnets and sacks prohibited. Anglers need a disgorger, landing net, carp-care kit and unhooking mat. There’s on-site parking, an adults-only accommodation setup and a takeaway running Thursday to Sunday, 5pm to 8pm. No on-site shop, but the village shop is approximately 2 miles away. A tidy option for a quiet holiday session, especially if your lodge has its own platform.
