Waterside Campus UON
A proper urban Nene stretch tucked beside the University of Northampton’s Waterside Campus. Northampton Nene Angling Club runs it under lease, with marked club-cut pegs on both banks around the sluice gates.

We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open South Bridge on Live River Levels

The lowdown
- The main run is right-bank fishing, starting at the university boundary off New South Bridge Road and heading downstream to the sluice gates at Nunn Mills Road.
- There’s extra left-bank water opposite the sluice gates, running along to the point facing University Bridge. Handy if the right bank is busy.
- It’s a modern campus setting rather than a wild rural wander, with pedestrian access through Becket’s Park and over Becket’s Bridge.
- Fishing is restricted to the pegs cut out and marked with posts by Northampton Nene Angling Club. No freelancing along the bank.
- The club lists roach, perch, chub, bream and dace here, so there’s a decent mixed coarse-fishing feel to the place.
- The sluice gates and changing urban river edges are the obvious features to pay attention to. Keep an eye on the water and settle into the marked swims.
- This is a dawn-to-dusk venue only. Night fishing is prohibited, so get packed up before darkness rolls in.
- The traditional River Nene close season applies from 15 March through 15 June inclusive. Outside that period, the fishery is available within the club’s rules.
- University grounds need treating with respect. Fires are banned, litter must go home or into campus bins, and security staff may ask to see club membership.
- Access is through University Car Park 4, which has a barrier. Use the intercom and say you’re Northampton Nene Angling Club members fishing the river.
- We're not sure on ticket prices for this one — check with the club or local regulations before you leave.
Methods: The checked details don’t specify particular tactics, so the sensible lowdown is to work the marked pegs and fish within the club’s rules. Any trotting, feeder or other approach is down to the angler and conditions on the day.

Coarse fishing on English rivers is closed from 15 March to 15 June inclusive. That's the law for coarse fish on rivers — it's not a club rule, and game-fishing seasons work differently.
