We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready

The lowdown

  • The beat runs from the Walwick boundary pool down to the Nether Warden boundary, so there’s a fair bit of water to get your head around.
  • Named spots include Sandy Wood, Wall Rapids, Folly Pool and Thistle Pool. Plenty of proper river character in there.
  • The lower section carries on towards the flats at Nether Warden, giving the beat a change of pace as you head downstream.
  • Warden Fishing describes its beats as mostly single-bank, with some double-bank sections. Worth checking the beat map before setting off.
  • This is part of the wider four-mile North and South Tyne fishery, with roughly seven named pools per beat on average.
  • Day rods are available when there’s space, with one rod allowed per beat. Beats change over at 1:30pm, so don’t miss the handover.
  • The fishery meets anglers at the beat or at the Boatside Inn car park. Yellow access tracks on the map mark where parking is available.
  • A ghillie can be booked for an extra cost. Handy if you want a steer on the pools, rapids and the best way to tackle the water.
  • Anglers need to contact the fishery manager at least two days before fishing, carry a permit, and leave a second copy on the vehicle dashboard.
  • Daily catch details must be reported to the fishery manager. The fishery also endorses CAST conservation guidance for salmon fishing on the Tyne.

Methods: The mix of named pools, rapids and flatter lower water should suit a range of river approaches. Pick your swim around the flow and features, with a ghillie available if you want a proper steer.

Fish the club names

The club doesn't list species for this stretch, so we haven't guessed.

Named by Warden Fishing across its waters, not for this stretch on its own.

Key rules

  • One rod is allowed per beat.

  • Carry a fishing permit and leave a second copy on the vehicle dashboard.
  • Report daily catch details to the fishery manager.
  • Dogs must remain under close control.

  • Sea-trout close season: November 1 to April 2 inclusive.
  • Brown-trout close season: October 1 to March 21 inclusive.
