River Trent at East Bridgford — below Gunthorpe Weir

A cracking 1.5-mile River Trent stretch starting straight below Gunthorpe Weir and running downstream through woods and open meadow. It’s a picturesque, members-only bit of water with chub, barbel and roach among the main named catches.

We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready

The lowdown

  • Fishing rights start directly below Gunthorpe Weir, so you’re straight onto the river from the off. The stretch runs downstream for approximately 1.5 miles.
  • The first roughly 0.75 mile follows a heavily wooded bank. Proper picturesque stuff, with the river tucked into the trees.
  • Downstream, the scene opens out into flat meadows. A nice change of character as you work your way along the water.
  • The main access point is a large car park around half a mile below the weir. The bank beside it is steep, though things improve a short way upstream and downstream.
  • Access is via Old Hill Lane, a public bridleway. The track drops downhill to the car park in the wood, and there’s an NAA key gate near the bottom.
  • Chub, barbel and roach are among the main named catches here. A proper Trent mix, with plenty to keep an angler interested.
  • The fishery is strictly members only, so there’s no casual day-ticket faff. You need current NAA membership before fishing this stretch.
  • The close season runs from 15 March to 15 June inclusive. Outside that window, the water is available under the association’s rules.
  • Night fishing is tightly limited: it’s allowed only from the weir down to the fence in the car park. A separate seasonal Night Fishing Permit is required.

Methods: The checked details name chub, barbel and roach as the main catches, but don’t set out specific methods. The wooded upper section and open meadow water give the stretch two distinct characters to explore.
