Thrumpton Estate River Trent — Ashfield Angling Club (AAC) — dawn to dusk ONLY
A cracking club-controlled bit of the Trent on the Thrumpton Estate, running from the outfall pipe near the weir down to just below the wooded area behind the conifers. There’s a proper mix of water here, from the weir pool and bubbling shallows to slow, deep glides, with the Trent–Soar confluence area also part of the venue.

We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- The Trent section starts at the outfall pipe near the weir and heads downstream to the wooded area behind the conifers. Nice clear limits, so no faffing about wondering where you’re allowed.
- The weir pool is the headline water, holding barbel, carp and chub. Large carp are reported throughout the stretch too, so there’s plenty of interest beyond the usual river fare.
- Expect a mixed-up river. Some areas are slow and deep, while others are shallow and bubbling. That gives you a few different pegs and approaches in one venue.
- The club describes the fishery as suitable for multiple angling styles. In other words, you can pick your attack rather than being boxed into one way of fishing.
- For roach and chub, maggots and casters are specifically mentioned. A tidy float approach looks the natural starting point where the flow allows.
- Boilie or pellet may produce bream and carp, according to the club. Worth keeping that in the armoury if you fancy sitting it out for something bigger.
- The venue description also names grayling, bream, pike and zander, alongside the barbel, carp, chub and roach. A proper mixed species ticket, then.
- The nearby River Soar section is reached by driving under the bridge above the weir and through a wooden gate. The Trent and Soar confluence area is included in the venue description.
- Parking is permitted behind your peg from the willows to the top of the Soar, but don’t damage the grass. There are old trees too, so take care when the wind gets up.
Methods: Float fishing with maggots or casters is mentioned for roach and chub, while boilie or pellet may produce bream and carp. The varied flow also leaves room for choosing between the bubbling shallows, deeper glides and weir-pool water.
