The full rundown on Trent Valley Fisheries

Trent View Carp Fishery sits off Gonalston Lane near Hoveringham and Lowdham, Nottinghamshire. It’s the venue officially named in the checked details, and likely the fishery anglers mean when talking about Trent Valley Fisheries near Nottingham.

This is a proper specimen carp water rather than a mixed bagger’s day-ticket lake. The mature gravel-pit lake covers approximately 28 acres and holds common and mirror carp, with the current stated lake record being the mirror Gutsy at 45 lb 8 oz.

The numbers are the big draw. The official fishery website states there are five carp over 40 lb, around 110 carp of 30 lb or more, and more than 1,200 carp over 20 lb. Another official fishery page refers to approximately 2,500 carp, including fish over 40 lb. That’s some serious potential for a lump.

Fish are dye-marked and photographed for identification, growth monitoring and security. The lake is also supplemented with approximately 3–5 tonnes of Trent View pellets annually. Those pellets are available from the on-site tackle shop or bailiff, so there’s no need to faff around trying to source them before the session.

Access is nicely set up for a longer campaign. Every swim is accessible by car, with parking behind or close to each peg. Double swims can be pre-booked for anglers fishing together, while other swims are selected on arrival, subject to availability. You must book and pay before arriving at the lake.

The venue has a toilet block with hot showers, plus an on-site tackle shop selling end tackle and fishery pellets. There’s also a log cabin with a wood burner and lake decking available to book. Night fishing is available through the 24-hour and longer sessions, although the main gates are locked overnight and CCTV operates at the fishery.

This is a tightly run carp venue, with plenty of kit and bait rules to follow. Three rods are allowed, a minimum 42-inch landing net is required, and only carp cradles or large beanie unhooking mats are permitted. Particles are banned, including sweetcorn and nuts, while carp must be returned quickly. For a focused specimen session with the chance of a serious PB, it looks a cracking option around Nottingham.

The main approach is to arrive clipped up on the rules, carry the required carp-care kit and use tubing on every rig. Barbless or micro-barbed hooks are allowed, but naked line, fixed rigs, leaders, plastic baits and imitation baits are not. Bait boats are allowed, subject to consideration for other anglers, and rods must not be left unattended.
