The full rundown on Linch Hill Fishery

Linch Hill Fishery sits near Stanton Harcourt in Oxfordshire and is all about English carp. The complex is made up of three lakes — Stoneacres, Christchurch and Willow — with the current official setup presented as private syndicate fishing. So, this isn’t a case of turning up on the off-chance for a cheeky day ticket. Access is currently aimed at invited syndicate members, with public day-ticket availability not confirmed.

Stoneacres is the big attraction at approximately 47 acres, and it’s reported to contain two known carp over 50lb. Bitemark and Chocco are among the named fish, which will certainly get the big-fish brigade twitching. At that size, though, it’s a proper campaign water rather than a quick overnighter where you lob three rods out and hope for the best. Expect to spend time learning the water, watching for signs and working out where the carp want to be.

Christchurch is approximately 9 acres, while Willow’s size isn’t published. Both lakes have historically been described as day-ticket waters, but the current official position presents all three as syndicate lakes. That change is worth clocking before making plans. If you’re keen, check the latest position directly through the fishery’s official channels rather than assuming old day-ticket details still apply.

Membership runs from 1 April to 1 April. Stoneacres-only membership is £1,400 annually, Christchurch and Willow membership is also £1,400, while Gold membership covering all three lakes is £2,000 a year. Invitations are managed through the OnFish app, and there’s a wait-list form on the official website. The fishery says that list is extensive, with selection based on recommendations, referrals, invitations and the wait list, so getting organised early is bob on.

There’s a clear structure to the fishing once you’re in. Night fishing is available to syndicate members, and Christchurch and Willow allow four days on a swim followed by three days off the lake. Swims cannot be reserved, so be ready to adapt and make the most of the peg in front of you. OnFish is used for permits, rules, gate codes and notices, so keep it handy and check the latest updates before setting off.

Tackle and fish care need to be bang on. Main line must be at least 15lb, landing nets must be at least 40 inches, and adequate fish-care kit including propolis is required. Sacks and keepnets are banned, retainers are required where permitted, and fish must be weighed in a sling and returned immediately. Fixed-lead rigs, long-shank, curved or bent hooks, peanuts, maggots, castors and worms are prohibited, while bait boats are banned on Christchurch and Willow. Add an adequate unhooking mat, sensible carp gear and a proper pre-session kit check, and you’ll avoid a costly faff. Toilets, showers and secure parking are reported at the complex, with an on-site cafe historically reported too. Members park in the main car park rather than driving to the swims.
