The lowdown
- This is a mainly single right-bank beat, so the fishing feels nicely focused rather than a sprawling faff. Around 1.25 miles gives you plenty to explore.
- The am/pm split is a smart touch. It stops anglers fishing the same pool from opposite Llanstephan Bank, keeping things a lot tidier on the water.
- There are several famous and productive salmon pools here. Llangoed Pool, Dol-meudwy and Orchard are the named ones to have on your radar.
- The upper and lower sections fish differently. The upper section is considered better for some fishing, while the lower rapids bring proper pocket-water opportunities for trout.
- Most of the beat suits dry fly, nymph and spider fishing. There are also sections that can be fished from the bank, handy when wading gets a bit spicy.
- Wading is relatively tricky, so take it steady. Studded or studded/felt soles are essential according to the beat description. No heroics needed.
- Trout and grayling are described as excellent. For coarse anglers, large chub are the main quarry, with a full day available on a day ticket.
- Salmon fishing is available by day ticket, with a maximum of two tickets per day. Salmon must be released at all times.
- Three parking spots are provided, all close to the river. Dogs are not allowed, and the beat operates a wash-off policy.
- The water is available through the Fishing Passport on an am/pm split. That gives you a proper session window and helps avoid crowding on the pools.
Methods: For trout and grayling, dry fly, nymph and spider fishing are the main game, with pocket-water work in the lower rapids. Coarse anglers can target the big chub, while salmon fishing centres on the named pools.
