Pleasure fishing is available, and booking is advised if you want to guarantee a place. The standard peg fee is £11, with a £9 concession for under-16s and over-65s. The fishery is closed on Mondays. Summer opening is 7:30am to 7:00pm, while winter runs from 7:30am until dusk. There’s no admittance after 10:00am, so don’t have a lie-in and expect to stroll through whenever.

Hawk is just over an acre with 14 pegs, holding carp to 10lb, F1s to 5lb, ide, small tench and crucians. Kingfisher is the smallest pool, with 11 pegs, and is normally reserved for pleasure fishing, although knock-ups can be arranged.

The other pools are named Owl and Swallow, so check the latest availability and pool arrangements when booking. Match anglers are well catered for, with open matches normally held on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Entry is £25 cash on the day, with booking closing at 5pm the previous day. Summer draws run from 7:30am to 9:30am, with fishing from 10:30am to 3:00pm. In winter, the draw is 7:30am to 9:00am and fishing runs from 10:00am to 3:00pm. Bring a sensible all-round coarse setup, spare rigs and enough bait options to switch if the fish aren’t on the munch.

The rules are worth reading before packing the tackle box. Barbless hooks up to size 12 only. No braid, floating poles or specimen/carp tackle. Only fishery-owned keepnets, landing nets and weigh bags can be used, with keepnets for matches only and a 60lb limit. Permitted feeds include pellets, maggots, casters, clean worms, corn and hemp, but no groundbait in feed and no feeding paste. There’s also self-catering accommodation for up to nine people, plus five electric caravan hardstandings, making it a tidy option for a short angling break.
