Pimley Manor — SAC

Pimley Manor is one of Shrewsbury Anglers Club’s most popular River Severn fisheries, running along the right-hand bank near Pimley Manor and Uffington. It’s proper mixed river water, with barbel, big chub, pike, perch, salmon, bream and plenty of silver fish in the mix.

Nearest EA gauge we've matched — it isn't on this stretch, so levels on your peg will differ.

We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready

The lowdown

  • This SAC stretch starts downstream of the sewage works and continues from Pimley Rough down to the inlet of the stream below the A5 bridge.
  • The water is described as suitable for all river species, so there’s a fair bit going on depending on where you settle in.
  • Below the island, pike and perch fishing can be prolific. A cheeky spot to have in mind if the usual silver-fish game is hard work.
  • Above the island, salmon are caught in the shallows opposite the Gypsy Stone. That’s a distinctive bit of river to look for.
  • The large slack above the island is where bream shoal. Worth keeping in mind when the river’s carrying less pace.
  • Faster gravel runs produce silver fish, giving you a more mobile option if you fancy working the water rather than sitting it out.
  • Barbel are regularly caught into double figures, while the chub go over 6 lb and occasionally into 7 lb. Proper Severn fish.
  • There are two car parks. The main one is under the A5 bridge, while the other is at Pimley Manor beside the brick wall, away from the cottages.
  • The A5-bridge car park is southbound carriageway only, and its gate is locked. Members need the code from the secretary and should park in the second bay under the bridge.
  • At Pimley Manor, turn right towards the cottages, but don’t drive along the bank. That’s prohibited apart from permitted work-party or emergency vehicles.

Methods: There’s scope for targeting barbel and chub, working the faster gravel runs for silver fish, or trying the slack above the island for bream. Below the island, pike and perch are the main draw, with salmon caught in the shallows opposite the Gypsy Stone.

  • Rods must not be left unattended.
  • If sleeping, rods must be wound in.
