We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- This is proper Severn water, with Pimley Rough continuing into Pimley Manor downstream from the sewage works and on towards the stream inlet below the A5 bridge.
- The fishing is on the right-hand bank. The club describes it as suitable for all river species, so there’s a fair bit to go at rather than one single banker swim.
- Barbel are the headline act, regularly going into double figures on the Pimley section. A feeder or a well-presented bait in the crease is the obvious shout.
- Big chub are present too, with fish over 6 lb and occasional 7 lb fish reported. Look for cover, steadier edges and sensible winter lines.
- Below the island, pike and perch fishing can be prolific. A cheeky lure or deadbait approach could be the ticket when the predators are on the munch.
- Above the island opposite the Gypsy Stone, salmon are caught in the shallows. Treat those areas with care and stick to the club’s rules.
- There’s a large slack above the island where bream shoal. That gives you a calmer-water option when the main flow is pushing through.
- Faster gravel runs produce silvers on a stick float. Proper bob-on trotting water when conditions are right, especially if the river has a bit of colour.
- The club says two car parks can accommodate plenty of anglers. The main one is under the A5 bridge; the second is at Pimley Manor, with parking by the brick wall away from the cottages.
- Night fishing is allowed, with up to five nights on Pimley Manor. Wading is permitted, but you’re responsible for your own safety, and rods must not be left unattended.
Methods: Barbel feeder fishing, chub tactics and predator fishing below the island are the main pulls. For silver fish, get a stick float over the faster gravel runs; bream are worth targeting in the large slack above the island.
