RDAS Leaton / Leaton Estate venue

A proper wild-and-woolly River Severn venue above Shrewsbury, with roughly 2.5 miles on the Leaton Estate. It’s aimed squarely at anglers who fancy uncrowded fishing and a bit of pioneering rather than neat, polished swims.

We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready

The lowdown

  • This is peaceful, overgrown riverbank fishing. Very much a campaign-style venue, not a conveyor belt of tidy pegs.
  • The holder describes the water as wild, with vegetation able to regrow over cleared swims within days. So expect a bit of faff and plenty of looking before settling in.
  • There are no listed peg numbers. The venue is about finding your own water and making the most of what’s in front of you.
  • The stretch is aimed at anglers after uncrowded fishing, with specimen fish that are rarely fished for. That’s a cracking combination if you like doing things your own way.
  • Barbel and chub are the principal attractions. Roach and dace are also regularly caught in the River Severn water on the Leaton Forest estate.
  • The river runs through the Leaton Estate, above Shrewsbury, with the association offering access across approximately 2.5 miles of Severn.
  • A pioneering or campaign approach is the name of the game here. Take your time, watch the water and be ready to adapt as the riverbank changes.
  • Night fishing is tightly controlled. It’s only available by invitation, and the Leaton night area is confined to the bottom meadow via Car Park A.
  • The first car park postcode given is SY4 3HX. The official venue page also provides a map and car-parking information.
  • Keep an eye on temporary closures, as estate works can affect access. Membership also covers the Leaton Estate, Roundabout venue and Castle Meadows River Severn fisheries, but not Fenemere Lake.

Methods: This is a proper campaign water: explore, watch for likely barbel and chub areas, and fish the features you find rather than expecting set-piece pegs. A patient, adaptable approach suits the wild banks and rarely fished-for specimen fish.
