Severn - Bicton
A proper wild, single-bank mile of the Severn at Bicton, about a mile west of Shrewsbury. It’s Association-owned water with room for a big match, but don’t expect manicured pegs — this is bankside vegetation and natural river character.

We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- You get roughly 1 mile of River Severn fishing here, all on a single bank. Plenty of water to explore, with a decent spread of swims rather than a tidy row of pegs.
- The holder describes the Bicton water as wild, with bankside vegetation and no manicured pegs. So expect a bit of scrambling and a more natural feel.
- It’s suitable as a match length for up to 90 anglers, which gives you a fair idea of the scale. There should be plenty of room to spread out, subject to the spacing rules.
- The fish list is a cracking mix: barbel, chub, roach, perch, pike, trout and eels are named for the stretch. Dace and salmon are also named by the holder.
- There’s car-park access, with the car park one field from the river. Access is via a dirt track from a gate between a house and the vicarage.
- The gate is opposite a sharp bend in the B4380. Take care on arrival, and watch for electric wire fences across the track to the car park — a proper faff if you’re not looking.
- With natural bankside cover and a wild feel, trotting, feeder work and searching likely-looking swims are the obvious approaches. Keep an eye out for the crease and any deeper-looking water.
- This is club water, not a public-access day-ticket stretch. Membership is open, with no waiting list, so joining is fairly bob on if you want to fish it regularly.
- Fishing is during permitted daylight hours unless a valid night permit applies. Bicton isn’t on the holder’s published list of night-fishing waters, so night access isn’t confirmed here.
Methods: Go mobile and fish the water in front of you. Trotting for the silver fish, feeder tactics for chub and barbel, and a lure or deadbait approach where pike are on the munch are the sensible starting points.
