We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- There are 20 permanently pegged swims, though seasonal weed growth can affect how they fish. The pegs are generally spaced around 35 yards apart where the bank allows.
- Access is nicely straightforward. Use the public car parks behind Burton Library, then follow the flat tarmac walkway across the Silver Way bridge.
- The track reaches the fishery at peg 8 and carries on upstream to the boundary at peg 20. Handy stuff, with less faff getting tackle to the river.
- Downstream pegs 1–5 are generally 5–6 feet deep. They’re the club’s pick for stick and waggler fishing, so a float rod and centre-pin would be bang on.
- Peg 6 is the oddball swim. The club describes it as roughly 16 feet deep and shaded by a big willow tree. It’s also noted for big bream of 7 lb or more.
- Upstream of peg 6, depths are generally 5–8 feet. That gives you plenty to explore, whether you’re working the crease, searching the glide or laying a float through the run.
- The named targets are roach, chub, bream, perch and pike. A proper mixed coarse-fishing list, with float work likely to be the main game on this stretch.
- Stick, waggler and centre-pin fishing are all specifically suited here. Keep things mobile, read the depth and make the most of the varied water rather than sitting on one line all day.
- The river is closed from 15 March until 16 June, so plan visits outside that period. Seasonal weed growth may also change which pegs are most comfortable to fish.
Methods: The club highlights stick, waggler and centre-pin fishing, with the shallower downstream pegs especially suited to float work. Peg 6 offers a much deeper line and is noted for larger bream.
