Burton-on-Trent, Broadholme Island
Broadholme Island is a proper urban River Trent fishery, with 26 pegs spread around split channels, bridge arches, weirs, trees and lily pads. It’s run by Coors Angling Club and looks a cracking all-round club water for roach, chub, bream, perch, pike and carp.

We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- This is an island stretch, with the Trent splitting at the upstream end below the Andressey section. So you’ve got two channels to play with, plus a shallow back channel rejoining the main river above the Baileys Meadow boundary.
- The right-hand channel runs opposite Burton Rowing Club and under three Burton Bridge arches on the Stapenhill side. The left-hand channel passes the Silver Way mouth and under one town-side bridge arch.
- Pegs 1 to 5 head upstream towards Burton Bridge, with 4 and 5 tucked below the bridge buttresses. The club highlights these pegs for roach and, sometimes, chub.
- Peg 6 sits on the upstream side towards the bridge arches. From 6 to the island point, the swims are described as fairly even in depth and character — handy if you fancy a steady stick or waggler session.
- The upper-point swims suit stick and waggler work. There’s plenty of classic river water here, so trotting should be well worth a look when the pace is right.
- Pegs 17 to 19 are on clear bank opposite the Silver Way mouth. That mouth has scoured out a hole of roughly 10 feet, giving you a proper depth change to fish around.
- Pegs 20 to 25 sit among trees, with beds of whips and lily pads on the far bank. The lily-pad area is noted for bream and carp, alongside the other named species.
- Peg 25 is at the upstream end of a weir and is a noted chub swim when fishing towards it. The inside line is noted for large perch too — a cheeky feature to keep in mind.
- The downstream weir and back-channel swims have produced large chub. Seasonal weed growth can affect the 26-peg layout, while rowing-boat activity adds to the urban river character.
Methods: Trotting with a stick float or waggler suits the upper-point swims, while feeder work gives you options around the deeper scoured hole, weirs and channel features. Fish the lily-pad edges and inside lines carefully for bream, carp and perch.
