The full rundown on Baggeridge Country Park Fishing Lake

Baggeridge Country Park is at Gospel End, near Sedgley in the West Midlands. It’s a proper sizeable park too, covering around 150–152 acres, with woodland, lakes, wetlands and open grassed areas all mixed together. A handy spot for a day out, then, with plenty going on beyond the fishing gear.

The main pools named around the park are Upper Wishing Pool, Lower Wishing Pool, Spring Pool and Island Pool. There are several smaller pools as well, although they aren’t named in the checked details. One important bit to clock before making plans: fishing is currently unavailable at Island Pool. The jetties shown on Geograph are on the island in that pool, so don’t assume those are available pegs.

There’s no published detail at the moment on fish species, lake sizes, ticket prices, fishing rules, the fishing season or night fishing. Online fishing-ticket booking isn’t provided either. So, rather than turning up with a barrow full of gear and hoping for a result, give the park a ring first. Ask which pools currently allow fishing, how tickets work, whether you need to book, and what tackle or bait restrictions apply.

That call is especially useful if you’re planning a first session. Take the usual sensible kit for a new venue — a couple of balanced rods, spare end tackle, a landing net and unhooking gear — but don’t build the whole plan around carp, tench, bream or any other particular species. The official details don’t name the fish, so keeping the approach flexible is the bob-on move. Once you know the rules and permitted water, have a look at the margins, any obvious features and quieter areas before choosing a swim.

Make sure you’re checking the right park when planning the trip. Rock Pool and Great Pool are nearby in adjacent Himley Park, not Baggeridge Country Park. Baggeridge also provides access towards Himley Hall and Park, which makes the wider area easy to mix into a day out, but those neighbouring waters shouldn’t be treated as part of this fishery.

There’s plenty here for non-anglers too. The park has a tearoom open throughout the year, serving breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, snacks and ice cream, plus toilet facilities, walking trails, surfaced paths, a mountain-bike trail, miniature railway and a children’s play area with swings, slides, a sandpit and a digger. The park listing says it opens daily at 9am and closes at 5pm, while separate parking details are directed elsewhere. Fishing availability should be confirmed with the park before travelling, particularly with Island Pool currently closed.

We're not sure on ticket prices here — we couldn't find reliable, up-to-date prices online, so give the fishery a ring or check their own site before you go.
