Northwick — KFAC

Northwick is a cracking half-mile of lower Severn controlled by Kinver Freeliners Angling Club. It’s members-only water, with good depth, a proper powerful flow and some serious fish potential.

We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready

The lowdown

  • This is classic lower Severn stuff, a few hundred yards below Bevere Weir. The river has plenty of depth and a steady, strong push.
  • There’s a fair bit of water to get your head around, but the slower flow makes static legering a sensible starting point. Proper barbel water, with big fish present.
  • Nomadic carp turn up in fair numbers too. They move about, so keep your eyes open and don’t assume the same swim will produce every time.
  • The stretch is also well suited to long-rod float fishing. Chub can be picked up on float tactics, while large roach are known from the section.
  • Winter is a key time. Big shoals gather in the area, which can really concentrate the fish and make the deeper, steadier swims worth a look.
  • Keep an eye on the margins. Deep edges provide predator habitat, with large pike present and perch tucked beneath marginal cover.
  • Members may fish below the most southerly swing gate. The short bit between the two metal swing gates by the house on stilts is not KFAC water.
  • Night fishing is allowed on both the Bevere and Northwick sections. Handy if you fancy putting in a proper after-dark session for the bigger residents.
  • Access needs a bit of care. The Bevere car park is limited to four vehicles, guests cannot park there, and vehicles must not be left on the access track.
  • Secure the field gate with both KFAC padlocks after entering and leaving. Bevere Island is out of bounds, so keep well clear of it.

Methods: Static legering suits the slower flow, especially for barbel and carp. Long-rod float fishing is bob on for chub and large roach, with the deeper margins worth attention for predators.

Coarse fishing on English rivers is closed from 15 March to 15 June inclusive. That's the law for coarse fish on rivers — it's not a club rule, and game-fishing seasons work differently.
