Trimpley & Northwood — BAA

We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready

The lowdown

  • Trimpley is described by BAA as excellent barbel water. That’s the headline here — a proper barbel-focused bit of Middle Severn.
  • The Trimpley section runs for approximately half a mile. The best pegs are towards the railway bridge, so that’s the area to have in mind when planning your session.
  • Northwood is described as similar water to Trimpley. It’s part of the same BAA stretch and gives you another Middle Severn option.
  • Access at Trimpley is now via the public footpath through Eymore Wood. The old Trimpley car park at the end of Northwood Lane is permanently closed.
  • Eymore Wood public car park is around 52.410474, -2.331589. Don’t try to use the closed Trimpley parking spot — it’s a dead end for access.
  • Northwood involves a walk from the car park alongside the disused railway embankment. The BAA car park is about a mile along Northwood Lane, reached from the B4190.
  • The Northwood gate is immediately after the old railway bridge, and a BAA gate code is needed. The car park is around 52.385905, -2.321599.
  • There’s no night fishing on either Trimpley or Northwood. Night permits are not available for these venues, so sessions need to stay firmly in daylight hours.
  • Keep vehicles clear of gates and adjoining-property entrances. It’s a simple bit of courtesy, but important here. You’ll also need a valid BAA permit and the right Environment Agency licence.
  • The water is best viewed as a barbel-led Middle Severn fishery, with a longer walk at Trimpley and easier access at Northwood. A cracking choice for BAA members after a proper river session.

Methods: This is a barbel-focused Middle Severn fishery. Fish with legal methods and equipment under the BAA rules, with Trimpley’s barbel water the main draw.
