Doddenham, River Teme

Plan a session

Doddenham is a proper natural River Teme stretch with about 600 yards of left-bank fishing. It’s members-only BAA water, with shallow glides, deeper gullies and plenty of wooded, steep bank to negotiate.

We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open Knightsford Bridge on Live River Levels

The lowdown

  • This is classic, natural Teme fishing rather than a tidy, developed peg fishery. Expect the river to feel properly tucked away, with the banks doing their best to keep things interesting.
  • The water runs immediately upstream of, and next to, BAA’s Broadwas fishery. It’s all part of the same wider Teme valley setting, near Doddenham and Lulsley.
  • The stretch offers about 600 yards of left-bank fishing. That gives you a decent bit of water to explore, but don’t expect every yard to be easy going.
  • Look for the shallow glides first, then pick apart the deeper gullies. Those changes in depth are the main features mentioned for the stretch and give the water its typical Teme character.
  • The banks are steep and heavily wooded. Some parts are difficult to reach, so a bit of walking and careful footwork are part of the day.
  • There’s no point trying to drive down to the river. Vehicles may enter only the first field, following the hedge line to park at the downstream end of the access field.
  • Keep well back from the edge. The banks are liable to collapse, so vehicles must not be taken to the river. Shut every gate after entering or leaving.
  • Being natural, this isn’t a swim-by-numbers venue. Pick sensible access points, watch the flow and depth, and make the most of the glides and gullies in front of you.
  • Night fishing isn’t allowed. Plan a daylight session, and remember this is members-only water rather than a public day-ticket stretch.

Methods: The facts point to typical River Teme fishing, with shallow glides and deeper gullies to work. Choose your approach around the depth and flow in each swim, while taking care around the steep, wooded banks.
