We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready

The lowdown

  • This is a wider, deeper bit of the Avon rather than a little shallow stream. Proper river water, with the extra depth giving the stretch a different feel.
  • The fishing covers both the Eckington Bridge and Nafford sections, so there’s a fair bit of water to get your head around.
  • Chub are one of the main named species here, while bream are also a key part of the venue’s make-up.
  • Pike are present and good pike sport is reported. A cheeky bonus if you fancy something with a bit more attitude.
  • Zander are present too, with the best-known area being below Nafford Weir. That’s the feature to keep in mind when exploring the Nafford section.
  • There’s a short gap between Nafford meadows 4 and 5, so don’t expect one completely unbroken run of bank throughout the meadows.
  • Access is available from Eckington Bridge car park and the Nafford BAA car park. Both are official access points, making the arrival faff fairly straightforward.
  • From Pershore, take the A4104 towards Upton, then the B4080 to Eckington Stone Bridge. For Nafford, continue over the bridge and take the first left for about a mile.
  • The gate lock code is on your BAA membership card. Close and lock the gate after you’ve gone through — simple, but important.
  • This is members-only water, with no public day-ticket option listed. Night fishing isn’t allowed on this stretch, either.

Methods: The broad, deeper Avon character suits anglers targeting the named chub, bream, pike and zander. The key feature specifically highlighted is the water below Nafford Weir for zander.
