River Ouse – Widdington, below Linton Weir
River Ouse · Members only
Widdington gives YDAA members roughly three-quarters of a mile of right-bank Ouse fishing below Linton Weir. It’s a members-only stretch with chub, barbel and bream in the mix, and feeder-fished caster or pellet is the suggested approach.

River Wye — Monmouth Rowing Club to Malley Brook (Glamorgan Anglers)
River Wye · Members only
Glamorgan Anglers Club Ltd controls double-bank fishing on the Wye from Monmouth Rowing Club upstream to Malley Brook on the Dixton bank. It’s a members-only stretch with accessible pegs on both banks and a proper mix of river species.

River Ouse – Donkey Woods
River Ouse · Members only
Donkey Woods is YDAA’s members-only right-bank stretch of the Ouse, with shallow sand-bed water and deeper swims above the road bridge. It’s a popular winter match fishery, with bream, roach and perch named for the stretch.

River Thames — Charvil, Buch Ait to Phillimores Island
River Thames · Members or supervised guest permit
A cracking bit of Berkshire Thames variety: Twyford & District Fishing Club’s Charvil stretch runs roughly three-quarters of a mile from downstream of Buch Ait to Phillimores Island and the Borough Marsh Stream mouth. There are numbered pegs 1–30, with bream, chub, barbel and seasonal roach and pike fishing to weigh up.

Bisterne Fishery, River Avon (Hampshire), Week Farm access on the Dorset side
River Avon (Hampshire) · Day ticket or club members — confirm availability
Bisterne Estate’s Avon fishery offers varied swims and plenty of water, with large chub and barbel the main draw. Week-side access goes through Week farmyard on the Dorset side — but check availability before setting off, as the estate’s older fishing page carries a November 2023 closure notice.

River Wye — Redbrook and Penallt

Redbrook Angling Club’s Wye water at Redbrook and Penallt offers both game and coarse fishing, with several salmon pools and a mix of fast and slow coarse swims. It’s members-only water, with local connections needed to join — not somewhere to turn up for a cheeky day ticket.

Ringwood Fishery, River Avon (Hampshire), Dorset–Hampshire boundary
River Avon (Hampshire) · Members and permitted guests; no public day tickets
Ringwood Fishery is Christchurch Angling Club’s bit of the Hampshire Avon between Somerley Estate water and the Severals. Deep pools, shallow runs and side channels give it a proper mix, with winter trotting at the splits a club-recommended approach.

River Ouse – Newton-on-Ouse

Newton-on-Ouse gives Leeds and District Amalgamated Society of Anglers yearbook holders two fields of left-bank fishing on the Ouse. There are 33 numbered permanent pegs, with access from the Kyle end and fishing allowed until 11pm.

River Thames — Romney Island, Windsor
River Thames · Members only
Romney Island is Still Water Leisure’s Thames fishery at Windsor, with roughly half a mile of water, over 40 swims and two weirs. Deep holes, bars and gravel runs give it proper character, with barbel, chub, bream, pike and carp all named.

River Thames — Hurley Riverside Park, Hurley

A peaceful bit of Thames bank at Hurley Riverside Park, with fishing run through Hurley Park Fishing Club. River fishing is free for club members, but don’t assume you can just turn up and buy a public day ticket.

Severals gives Ringwood & District Anglers Association anglers two miles of the Hampshire Avon along the Dorset–Hampshire boundary. It’s a members-and-guests stretch, with barbel, chub and plenty more on the fish list — but no public day tickets currently.

Southlea Farm is Farnham Angling Society’s River Thames stretch at Datchet, Berkshire. It’s a membership option rather than a cheeky day-ticket trip — the society doesn’t issue public day tickets.

River Ouse · Day ticket
Red House gives you over two miles of the Ouse’s right bank under York & District Amalgamation of Anglers, with day tickets available. There’s bream, roach, perch and barbel to go at, plus occasional carp and tench.

Lower Avon mouth at Stanpit Bank–Claypool, Christchurch, Dorset
River Avon (Hampshire) · Day ticket or annual permit
This is the Lower Avon mouth beside Stanpit Bank, heading towards Claypool, with bank fishing managed by South West Lakes Trust on behalf of South West Water. There’s a day-ticket option, a cheeky evening ticket and a 24-hour ticket if you fancy staying overnight.

Linton-on-Ouse (Top) is Leeds and District Amalgamated Society of Anglers’ left-bank stretch of the River Ouse, covering two fields downstream of Hunters Lodge. It’s yearbook-holder water, with permanent pegs numbered 232–263 — not a public day-ticket stop.

River Thames — Cliveden Reach, My Lady Ferry to Islet Road
River Thames · Affiliated-club members — confirm availability
Cliveden Reach is a TVAA-listed bit of the Thames between Cookham and Maidenhead, with roach and dace fishing specifically mentioned. Before making plans, check it’s still available: affiliated clubs list it, but TVAA’s current fisheries page leaves it out.

A cracking-looking 1¼ miles of Berkshire Thames run by Barnet and District Angling Club, with tree-lined banks and some properly deep margins. This is BADAC’s Sonning stretch, not RDAA’s separately listed Sonning River venue.

Acaster is YDAA’s members-only stretch on the tidal Ouse, with right-bank fishing from Naburn Weir to the Old Salmon Hut. There’s feeder sport for roach and skimmers, plus specimen chub and barbel in the weir pool — but keep a proper eye on those fast-rising levels.

River Trent – Wolseley Bridge, Staffordshire
River Trent · Members only
Wolseley Bridge is a cracking mixed-character bit of the Staffordshire Trent, controlled by Wishing Well Anglers Association. Around 1,000 metres of single-bank fishing takes in fast shallows, gentle glides and deep holes, with chub and barbel among the named fish.

River Severn — Knowle Sands
River Severn · Members only; advance night permit available
Knowle Sands is BAA’s four-section stretch of the Shropshire Severn, with barbel firmly on the agenda. Summer and autumn get the nod, with swimfeeder or leger fishing the recommended approach — just pack light for that woodland climb.

Kings Bromley gives Burslem Izaak Walton Angling Society members roughly 1.5 miles of Staffordshire Trent, with deep runs and shallow glides to get stuck into. It’s members only, and membership is full for 2026.

River Severn — Monkmoor, Shrewsbury
River Severn · Day ticket or annual permit
Monkmoor gives you well over a mile of right-bank Severn fishing inside the river loop, run by Shrewsbury Town Fisheries. There’s proper variety here: bedrock rapids and deep holes up top, gravel runs through the middle, and pike and perch highlighted near the lower outlet.

Finding somewhere to fish near you
Type a town, county or fish into the box up top — something like “Nottingham”, “carp Nottinghamshire” or “day ticket River Trent” — and we'll pull up the waters we've checked nearest that spot. Around Nottingham, for example, you'll find canal stretches, the tidal-free middle Trent and plenty of commercial lakes within a short drive.
Every listing tells you the stuff you actually need before you load the car: what's in each lake or stretch, whether it's a day ticket, club or syndicate water, the house rules and what a ticket costs when we last checked. Rules and prices change, so always give the fishery or club a quick shout before you go.
Rivers, canals and stillwaters fish completely differently. Lakes reward a bit of watercraft and steady feeding; rivers are all about flow, depth and level, so we show live river levels where we can. Use the water-type and fish filters to narrow it down, then open a venue for the lake-by-lake or stretch-by-stretch lowdown.
