River Ouse – Red House
River Ouse · Day ticket
Red House gives you over two miles of the Ouse’s right bank under York & District Amalgamation of Anglers, with day tickets available. There’s bream, roach, perch and barbel to go at, plus occasional carp and tench.

Lower Avon mouth at Stanpit Bank–Claypool, Christchurch, Dorset
River Avon (Hampshire) · Day ticket or annual permit
This is the Lower Avon mouth beside Stanpit Bank, heading towards Claypool, with bank fishing managed by South West Lakes Trust on behalf of South West Water. There’s a day-ticket option, a cheeky evening ticket and a 24-hour ticket if you fancy staying overnight.

River Ouse – Linton-on-Ouse (Top)
River Ouse · Yearbook holders and accompanied guest-pass anglers
Linton-on-Ouse (Top) is Leeds and District Amalgamated Society of Anglers’ left-bank stretch of the River Ouse, covering two fields downstream of Hunters Lodge. It’s yearbook-holder water, with permanent pegs numbered 232–263 — not a public day-ticket stop.

River Thames — Cliveden Reach, My Lady Ferry to Islet Road
River Thames · Affiliated-club members — confirm availability
Cliveden Reach is a TVAA-listed bit of the Thames between Cookham and Maidenhead, with roach and dace fishing specifically mentioned. Before making plans, check it’s still available: affiliated clubs list it, but TVAA’s current fisheries page leaves it out.

River Thames — Sonning downstream to above St Patrick’s Stream (BADAC)
River Thames · Members only
A cracking-looking 1¼ miles of Berkshire Thames run by Barnet and District Angling Club, with tree-lined banks and some properly deep margins. This is BADAC’s Sonning stretch, not RDAA’s separately listed Sonning River venue.

River Ouse – Acaster
River Ouse · Members only
Acaster is YDAA’s members-only stretch on the tidal Ouse, with right-bank fishing from Naburn Weir to the Old Salmon Hut. There’s feeder sport for roach and skimmers, plus specimen chub and barbel in the weir pool — but keep a proper eye on those fast-rising levels.

River Ouse – Linton-on-Ouse (Bottom)

Linton-on-Ouse Bottom is Leeds and District Amalgamated Society of Anglers’ left-bank Ouse water, covering two fields downstream of Linton Top. It’s a yearbook-holders-only stretch, with permanent pegs numbered 264–294.

River Trent – Wolseley Bridge, Staffordshire

Wolseley Bridge is a cracking mixed-character bit of the Staffordshire Trent, controlled by Wishing Well Anglers Association. Around 1,000 metres of single-bank fishing takes in fast shallows, gentle glides and deep holes, with chub and barbel among the named fish.

River Severn — Knowle Sands
River Severn · Members only; advance night permit available
Knowle Sands is BAA’s four-section stretch of the Shropshire Severn, with barbel firmly on the agenda. Summer and autumn get the nod, with swimfeeder or leger fishing the recommended approach — just pack light for that woodland climb.

Kings Bromley gives Burslem Izaak Walton Angling Society members roughly 1.5 miles of Staffordshire Trent, with deep runs and shallow glides to get stuck into. It’s members only, and membership is full for 2026.

River Severn — Monkmoor, Shrewsbury
River Severn · Day ticket or annual permit
Monkmoor gives you well over a mile of right-bank Severn fishing inside the river loop, run by Shrewsbury Town Fisheries. There’s proper variety here: bedrock rapids and deep holes up top, gravel runs through the middle, and pike and perch highlighted near the lower outlet.

River Trent – Silver Way, Burton upon Trent
River Trent · Club membership; applications subject to approval
Silver Way is Coors Angling Club’s brewery-excavated cutting off the Trent at Burton upon Trent. It’s a proper change from a pegged match stretch, with deep water at Bream Corner, lily-covered shallows and a stalking approach.

River Severn — Apley Estate, north of Bridgnorth

Apley Estate gives BAA members half a mile of left-bank Severn fishing north of Bridgnorth, with barbel, chub, roach and perch on the list. It’s beside the A442, with daytime fishing only.

A compact, single-bank bit of the Severn near Bridgnorth, owned and run by Albrighton Anglers. Barbel are the headline draw, with chub in the mix and members allowed a session after dark.

River Great Ouse – Wyboston Lakes Complex
River Great Ouse · Day ticket or members
Luton Angling Club’s Great Ouse stretch at Wyboston has 40 river pegs, with members and day-ticket anglers both welcome. There’s large bream on the venue list, double-figure carp reported upstream and a straightforward turn-up-and-fish ticket setup.

Roxton A is the London Anglers’ Association’s members-only Great Ouse stretch at Great Barford, running upstream from Barford Bridge. There’s a cracking mix of bridge chub swims, colder-month bream water and a narrower upstream section that keeps some flow in low water.

Severals gives you two miles of Hampshire Avon fishing at Ringwood, run by Ringwood & District Anglers Association. There’s a proper mixed fish list, but no public day tickets — guests need a member to buy their ticket.

Bromham is Bedford Angling Club’s unspoilt bit of the Great Ouse, with long glides and a proper walk to the water. Parking is some distance from the bank, so bear that in mind before loading up.

Fenlake is Bedford Angling Club’s central Bedford stretch of the Great Ouse, walkable from the Embankment. There’s closer parking opposite the Anchor pub, but the floodplain crossing can make access tricky when the river’s high.

Sopley Mill Stream is Christchurch Angling Club’s cracking bit of the Hampshire Avon, with gravel shallows, deeper glides and far-bank cover. There are no public day tickets, but annual membership is open to everyone.

Oakley Main is a scenic bit of the Bedfordshire Great Ouse run by Bedford Angling Club. Parking is beside the double bridges, but awkward gates and undercut banks mean it pays to keep the kit manageable and watch your footing.

Finding somewhere to fish near you
Type a town, county or fish into the box up top — something like “Nottingham”, “carp Nottinghamshire” or “day ticket River Trent” — and we'll pull up the waters we've checked nearest that spot. Around Nottingham, for example, you'll find canal stretches, the tidal-free middle Trent and plenty of commercial lakes within a short drive.
Every listing tells you the stuff you actually need before you load the car: what's in each lake or stretch, whether it's a day ticket, club or syndicate water, the house rules and what a ticket costs when we last checked. Rules and prices change, so always give the fishery or club a quick shout before you go.
Rivers, canals and stillwaters fish completely differently. Lakes reward a bit of watercraft and steady feeding; rivers are all about flow, depth and level, so we show live river levels where we can. Use the water-type and fish filters to narrow it down, then open a venue for the lake-by-lake or stretch-by-stretch lowdown.
