River level integration coming for this stretch.

The lowdown

  • This is Beat 3 in the waters run by Cymdeithas Pysgota Llandeilo Angling Association. The club manages or owns around 9 miles of Tywi fishing, with more than 7 miles advertised for visiting anglers.
  • The river here is the Tywi — also known as the Towy or Afon Tywi — and the association describes it as a premier sewin river. That’s the headline attraction, especially when the autumn fish are on the munch.
  • Expect a proper mix of river water rather than one steady character throughout. The association’s Tywi fishing includes deep pools, quicker runs and smoother glides, so there should be plenty to work out.
  • Sewin are the named target species, with occasional salmon present, particularly during the autumn run. Brown trout are also present in the association’s waters.
  • A bit of colour and sensible water levels should suit moving-water approaches. Think trotting where the flow allows, searching the creases and working a feeder through steadier water. Fly anglers can cover the runs and glides when conditions are bob on.
  • The published season runs from 1 April to 17 October. Early and late-season conditions can change quickly, while autumn is the key window for sewin and the occasional salmon.
  • The association provides beat maps, access information and parking directions on its website. Do check those before setting off, as the exact access arrangements matter on this sort of farmed valley water.
  • If taking a vehicle onto farm land, get the landowner’s permission first. Shut every gate behind you. Dogs aren’t permitted with anglers on association waters.
  • Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult on the river bank, except at the designated Llandeilo Road Bridge area. A valid NRW rod licence is needed, along with your club permit or day ticket.

Methods: A flexible approach is the order of the day: trot the runs, fish the creases and glides, or feeder the steadier water. Fly fishing should come into its own when the river has a bit of colour and the sewin are moving.

Coarse fishing on English rivers is closed from 15 March to 15 June inclusive. That's the law for coarse fish on rivers — it's not a club rule, and game-fishing seasons work differently.
