We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open Stockbridge Side on Live River Levels

The lowdown
- This is proper Hampshire chalkstream territory: clear water, gravel bottom and that lovely Test character. Think neat riffles, steady glides, deeper pools and the odd carrier or side stream.
- The beat is approximately 1.42 km long, so there’s plenty of water to explore rather than just a couple of tucked-away swims. The listed depth is generally 1–3 ft.
- It’s a private beat, managed and booked through Fishing Breaks at Nether Wallop. The fishing is for one or two anglers together, with capacity for three rods.
- This is fly fishing only, with dry-fly and nymph methods listed. Keep things tidy and accurate, as the operator rates the water as moderately difficult and suitable for experienced anglers.
- Wading isn’t permitted, so you’ll be fishing from the bank and making the most of the available lies. That makes presentation, reach and keeping a low profile properly important.
- The main target is native brown trout, with grayling also regularly caught on the fly across the operator’s River Test waters. A cheeky grayling on a dry is always bob on.
- The season runs from 1 May to 30 September. Clear chalkstream conditions can make fish spooky, so delicate casts and careful fly choice should be the order of the day.
- There’s a fishing cabin rated five stars by the operator, which is a nice bonus for a brew and a regroup between sessions. Dogs are permitted too.
- A guide and ghillie are available if you want to get straight onto the best water without the faff. Parking is associated with the booked beat, but no separate public parking postcode is given.
- Night fishing isn’t advertised. The full-day rate is £395 per rod, and fishing must be arranged in advance through Fishing Breaks.
Methods: Dry fly and nymph are the listed approaches. With no wading allowed and water generally 1–3 ft deep, careful bank fishing and accurate presentation are the name of the game.
