Baddox & Boatside Beat, River South Tyne
Baddox & Boatside is a cracking day-ticket beat on the South Tyne, running for just over a mile above Fourstones Paper Mill and past Baddox Farm. It’s rural, properly varied water, with named pools, quicker runs and deeper salmon lies.

We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open Warden Bridge End on Live River Levels

The lowdown
- The beat starts on the right bank above Fourstones Paper Mill, then tracks past Baddox Farm. A decent chunk of South Tyne water to get stuck into.
- It’s just over a mile long, with access tracks shown on the beat map. Parking is available along those tracks, so there’s less faff getting between swims.
- Expect a mix of named pools, faster water and deeper salmon-fishing lies. That gives you options as the river moves through different heights and colours.
- The water is mostly single-bank on the wider Warden Fishing holding, although some double-bank water exists elsewhere across the system.
- This is salmon and sea-trout country, with the estate publishing five-year catch details for both. Proper classic Tyne targets.
- One rod is allowed per beat, keeping things nice and uncluttered. Beats 1 and 2, and Beats 3 and 4, change over at 1:30pm each day.
- A meet-and-greet is available, with the team explaining the pools and beats. Meet at the beat or at the Boatside Inn car park.
- A ghillie can be arranged for extra cost, and Warden Fishing can provide contacts for direct booking. Handy if you want someone to point out the better lies.
- The estate strongly recommends a wading stick and buoyancy aid in strong or deep water. Dogs are welcome too, but need to stay under close control.
Methods: Work the pools and deeper lies with salmon and sea-trout methods suited to the river height, switching between the quicker water and steadier creases as conditions change. A ghillie is available at extra cost if you want a steer on the beat.
