River level integration coming for this stretch.

The lowdown

  • This is the Vaynor Estate section of the River Severn, near Newtown in Powys.
  • You get approximately three-quarters of a kilometre of fishing, all on the right bank.
  • The water is a natural, flowing river rather than a stillwater. A proper Severn job.
  • The stretch sits beside Newtown’s western edge, with playing fields around Vaynor.
  • It’s mixed coarse and game fishing, so there’s a decent spread of named species to target.
  • The fish list includes dace, roach, chub, grayling, brown trout, salmon, perch, pike, gudgeon and bream.
  • Salmon and sea trout must be returned under NRW byelaws. No taking liberties there.
  • The statutory river close season applies, so check the dates before heading out.
  • Night fishing isn’t permitted. This one’s a daylight-only affair.
  • It’s distinct from the Newtown Penarth NRW free fishery, so make sure you’re sorting the right permission.
  • Access and parking details are supplied locally for the Vaynor Estate/Newtown area. The nearest widely used postcode is SY16 1LB.
  • Check with the club before travelling. Ticket availability, prices, access arrangements and rules can change.
  • We're not sure on ticket prices for this one — check with the club or local regulations before you leave.

Methods: A mixed coarse-and-game water, so the stretch suits anglers fishing for the named coarse and game species. Keep things within the club rules, NRW byelaws and the statutory close season.
