STF Coney Green
STF Coney Green, also known locally as Burr’s Field, gives you roughly 300 yards of right-bank fishing on the River Severn in Shrewsbury. It’s a tidy, comfortable stretch with steady water, mature willows and some cracking roach and predator sport.

We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- The stretch starts at Kingsland Toll Bridge and runs down to the Old Brewery, now converted into apartments. A proper little town-water run.
- There are a number of solid, level pegs, set back several yards from the path. The first three swims below the bridge are described as the favourites.
- Most of the bank is lined with mature willows, but they don’t get in the way of fishing. Handy cover without too much faff.
- The river begins as a long, fairly straight section before curving gently left towards the bottom. Flow is slow and steady.
- Depth is normally around 12 feet close in, just off the boards. That makes the near bank well worth a look, especially in colder weather.
- Stick float or waggler is the normal game here. The fishery reckons there’s no real advantage in reaching for the pole, so keep it simple.
- Winter roach fishing can be excellent close to the rod tip. A neat presentation in the crease and along the near shelf could be bob on when the water cools.
- There are large predators in the stretch too. The small outlet halfway along can offer pike and lure-fishing opportunities, so don’t ignore that bit of extra movement.
- Access is on foot via the Quarry section and Kingsland Bridge. Parking is available on Kingsland Bridge Road for a charge, with possible space on Kingsland Road and a 10–20 minute walk from St Julians Friars.
Methods: Start with a stick float or waggler, especially for roach, dace and chub in the steady flow. For predators, the small halfway outlet is the obvious place to try a lure, within the fishery rules.

Key rules
- A valid Shrewsbury Town Fisheries day or season permit is required, bought online before fishing; permits are not sold on the bank.
- A valid Environment Agency rod licence is required before purchasing a permit.
- Fish only from designated pegs, or at least 10 metres from another angler where no pegs are present.
- Fishing extends only to the centre line of the river; casting must not go beyond it.
- No more than two baited rods may be used at one time. Rods must not be left unattended, and anglers must remain within two metres of them.
- Wading is permitted at the angler’s own risk.
- All fish must be returned alive, except permitted trout during the appropriate Environment Agency season.
- Live fish baiting is prohibited. Carry a landing net; barbel, pike and specimen anglers must also carry an unhooking mat.
Coarse fishing on English rivers is closed from 15 March to 15 June inclusive. That's the law for coarse fish on rivers — it's not a club rule, and game-fishing seasons work differently.
