We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- This is a proper mixed-feature bit of the Trent, rather than one long, samey glide. Trees and other bankside features add a bit of cover and plenty to go at.
- The fast, shallow water should suit a lively trot when there’s enough flow on. Keep the bait moving naturally and search the crease where quicker water meets the steadier stuff.
- There are gentler glides too, giving you a calmer option when the river is pushing through. A float approach looks bob on here, especially when fish are spread across the pace.
- The deep holes are the spots to keep in mind when conditions are tougher or the river has a bit of colour. They’re also worth rotating through rather than camping on one swim all day.
- Barbel and chub are named for the stretch, so don’t ignore the stronger water and depth. A feeder approach gives you a way into those deeper areas without faffing about.
- Roach, dace, perch, grayling and trout are also named, making this a nicely mixed fishery. There’s plenty of scope to switch things up as the swim tells you what’s happening.
- Pike are named too, so take a proper look at the margins, deeper holes and quieter edges. Varied features mean the fish won’t necessarily be sat in the same water every visit.
- Night fishing is permitted, with no extra charge, but the full access and parking details come with membership. Worth getting those sorted before turning up.
- The stretch runs for approximately 1,000 metres and is single-bank fishing. Membership runs from 1 January to 31 December, giving you the full season to learn the pegs and water.
Methods: Trotting the faster shallows and gentle glides is the obvious starting point, while feeder tactics can pick out the deeper holes. Change with the river and keep working the different features.

Coarse fishing on English rivers is closed from 15 March to 15 June inclusive. That's the law for coarse fish on rivers — it's not a club rule, and game-fishing seasons work differently.
