We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- This is Birmingham Anglers Association water, with the association established way back in 1883.
- Fishing is on the right bank only, covering the Barton and Bidford right-bank sections.
- The Bidford water includes part of the lock island — a handy landmark when you’re finding your way around.
- Barton access is via a track to the BAA car park off Welford Road. The postcode given is B50 4LY.
- Bidford access is from Church Street and Grange Road. Parking is on the grass verge by a stile, then it’s across a track over the field.
- There’s no published stretch length, peg count, depth or swim-by-swim detail at present. BAA says the fuller description is still forthcoming.
- So, there’s no honest steer here on glides, creases, depth or the best way to fish it. Worth having a recce before lugging all the kit down.
- BAA’s official work plans show maintenance activity at the Barton and Bidford right-bank water.
- This is membership water rather than a stated day-ticket venue. Membership runs from 1 January to 31 December 2026.
- Night fishing is explicitly not allowed on this stretch. Don’t confuse it with the separate Avon night-permit waters at Marlcliff and Fladbury.
Methods: The official details don’t give enough on depth, flow, swims or features to recommend a specific approach. Have a look first, then pick your method to suit what’s in front of you.

Key rules
- Membership water through Birmingham Anglers Association’s membership system.
- An Environment Agency licence is required.
- Fishing is on the right bank only.
- No fishing at night on this stretch.
- Membership allows fishing for coarse fish, trout and salmon on Association waters, subject to BAA rules and an Environment Agency licence.
Coarse fishing on English rivers is closed from 15 March to 15 June inclusive. That's the law for coarse fish on rivers — it's not a club rule, and game-fishing seasons work differently.
