River Weaver — National Length
The National Length on the River Weaver is WDAA’s main match water at Winsford, running through the Weaver Valley Parkway. It’s a slow, deep, canalised stretch with regular roach, bream and skimmer sport, plus the odd pike and carp.

We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open Ashbrook on Live River Levels
The lowdown
- This is the National Length, covering pegs 76–112 and stretching roughly 500 yards. A proper match-style bit of river, with anglers expected to keep things tidy and make way when booked matches are on.
- The Weaver here is slow and deep, more like a canalised navigation than a lively little river. Look for the crease, steadier water and any slight change in depth.
- Roach, bream and skimmers are the main fare, with fish reported to double figures. Pike are present too, while carp turn up occasionally. Not a bad mix at all.
- Pole and feeder tactics are both suitable. A tidy pole line should pick off the roach and skimmers, while feeder work is the shout when you want to find the deeper going or put a bit more bait down.
- The banks are high in places, so take care underfoot. Some swims are closed by park rangers where the banking is unstable — don’t be tempted to sneak into them.
- This is a busy public park setting, with cyclists and dog walkers about. Keep gear neat, stay aware and expect a bit of movement around the banks.
- Fishing runs from 16 June to 14 March. The statutory close season is 15 March to 15 June inclusive, and the car park is inaccessible during that period because the gate lock is changed.
- Access is from the National car park, but the track is gated. You’ll need a Weaver Parkway Angling Access Key through the council/WDAA process, with the gate past the entrance to Fords of Winsford.
- Bring a trolley or barrow. It’s a handy way to shift kit along the track without turning the walk into a proper faff. Carry your WDAA permit and rod licence, as inspections can happen.
- Booked night sessions are allowed for up to 48 hours with the night-fishing upgrade, but they must be arranged through WDAA. Up to three rods are allowed with the correct EA three-rod licence.
Methods: Pole and feeder tactics are the main options. Fish the steady, deeper water with a tidy pole line for silverfish, or switch to the feeder when you want to search more water and pick out the bigger bream.
