We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- This is North Tyne water below Kielder Dam, running through some properly lovely Northumberland countryside.
- The fishing length is given as 1.5 km in the short description and 2 km in the detailed beat information, so check the passport details when booking.
- Only the left bank is included. The upstream limit is the vegetated gravel shore above the Cuddies Loop car park.
- Downstream, the beat finishes at the fence line upstream of Riverdale Hall Hotel. Nice clear markers, which is always a bonus.
- The water is described as having excellent fishing, with brown trout the named species for this beat. Keep things tidy and enjoy the setting.
- It’s fly fishing only, all season. No bait, feeders or cheeky bits of float tackle here — just the fly rod.
- The fishing dates run from 22 March to 15 June inclusive. A short, defined season, so don’t leave it until the last minute.
- There’s roadside parking at Cuddies Loop, plus space at the end of the track across the field. Extra roadside parking is available on the right side of the river.
- Left-bank access is from the C200 Kielder road, 1.5 km north of Bellingham Bridge. The right-bank area has a separate access, but this beat includes the left bank only.
- Hesleyside Huts offer accommodation nearby, with Bellingham, the Hesleyside estate and Riverdale Hall Hotel all close at hand.
Methods: Fly fishing only throughout the open season. The North Tyne is a famous salmon river, but brown trout are the named species for this particular beat.
