Watersmeet Coarse Fishing Beat
Watersmeet is a cracking 1,000-metre coarse-fishing beat on the River Tyne, near Acomb and Warden. It’s got a proper mix of pools and streams, with dace, chub and the odd cheeky perch on the cards.

We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- Fishing is from the left bank, also known as the Acomb bank. Nice and clear, that.
- The upper end starts at the marker post below Warden Gorge. The lower limit is 80 metres below Tynes Junction Pool.
- This is scenic Tyne water around the confluence of the North Tyne and South Tyne. Gorge country, open river and plenty to look at between swims.
- The beat runs to roughly 1,000 metres, with a mixture of deeper pools and more lively streams. Plenty of water to explore.
- It’s coarse-fishing river water rather than a salmon or trout-only job. Think dace and chub, with occasional perch mixed in.
- Float-fishing is permitted, so trotting the running water is well worth a go. Look for steady glides and the crease where faster flow meets softer water.
- Ledger tactics are also allowed. That gives you a handy option in the pools, especially when the river has a bit of colour or the fish are sitting tight.
- The fishing window is from 1 November to 15 March. A cracking winter option when the river’s moving and the chub are on the munch.
- Parking is on the left of Howden Lane before the quarry entrance. Park considerately and keep well clear of private land.
- Catch returns are very important to Tyne Rivers Trust, so make sure yours is completed after the session. Bob on and genuinely useful for the fishery.
Methods: Float-fishing and ledger tactics are permitted. Trotting the streams and glides, or settling a ledger in the pools, should cover the water nicely.
