We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- There are two separate sections here, one on each side of the lock. Handy to know before you lug all your gear down the wrong way.
- The BAA lists 20 pegs in each section, giving 40 pegs in total. Plenty of room on paper, although contests can make it a busy old place.
- This is described as typical Avon fishing, so expect a proper mixed coarse-water feel rather than a single-species circus.
- Roach, perch, chub and bream are named for the Wick fishery, with the occasional barbel also mentioned. A nice spread of Avon fare.
- The stretch is popular with clubs for contests, which tells you it’s a well-used venue and one worth having in the diary when conditions look bob on.
- For a session, think standard river tactics: trotting a float through the crease, or settling in with a feeder where the flow and swim shape suit it. Keep it simple and fish the water in front of you.
- A bit of colour and a steady push of water should be well worth looking for. Chub and barbel can make the faster, more oxygenated bits interesting, while steadier water may suit roach, perch and bream.
- Access is through Wick village after crossing Pershore Bridge. Turn left in the village, then follow the lane to the end by the farm buildings.
- The BAA car park is the location point, with postcode WR10 3NS and coordinates 52.118058, -2.064071. Do not obstruct farm machinery — leave things tidy and keep the lane clear.
- Night fishing is prohibited at Wick. It’s a day-only venue, with fishing available to BAA members rather than an identified day-ticket setup.
Methods: A float or feeder approach should cover the typical Avon mix nicely. Trotting is the obvious starting point for roach, chub and perch, while a feeder gives you a tidy way into bream and the occasional barbel.
