A cracking 400-metre, single-bank River Severn stretch close to Shrewsbury town centre, run by Albrighton Anglers. The club describes this middle-Severn water as peaceful and capable of producing quality fish, including some proper barbel, chub and pike.

Abermule — BAA

River Severn · Club members

Abermule is a cracking bit of upper Severn water in Powys, with roughly three-quarters of a mile on the BAA-held left bank. It’s got proper deep runs and shallow glides, so there’s enough variety for both coarse and game anglers.

A cracking upper Eden stretch upstream from Eastfield Bridge, run by Kirkby Stephen and District Angling Association. There’s good fly water, a waterfall, deeper slow water and wild brown trout in attractive upper Eden countryside.

Halton Lower Beat is a cracking lower-Lune stretch near Lancaster, run by Lune Rivers Trust. It’s left-bank water with three main holding pools, eight rods available daily and a proper fly-fishing feel.

A tidy five-swim River Severn stretch near Wroxeter and Atcham, run by Lymm Angling Club. It’s single-bank fishing, with covered glides on the far bank and some proper deep runs to pick apart.

Finding somewhere to fish near you

Type a town, county or fish into the box up top — something like “Nottingham”, “carp Nottinghamshire” or “day ticket River Trent” — and we'll pull up the waters we've checked nearest that spot. Around Nottingham, for example, you'll find canal stretches, the tidal-free middle Trent and plenty of commercial lakes within a short drive.

Every listing tells you the stuff you actually need before you load the car: what's in each lake or stretch, whether it's a day ticket, club or syndicate water, the house rules and what a ticket costs when we last checked. Rules and prices change, so always give the fishery or club a quick shout before you go.

Rivers, canals and stillwaters fish completely differently. Lakes reward a bit of watercraft and steady feeding; rivers are all about flow, depth and level, so we show live river levels where we can. Use the water-type and fish filters to narrow it down, then open a venue for the lake-by-lake or stretch-by-stretch lowdown.
