We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open Featherstone on Live River Levels
The lowdown
- This beat sits at Lambley in Northumberland and is provided by Lambley Estate, with bookings handled through the Tyne Angling Passport.
- You get 1.2 km of river to explore, and both banks are included. Maximum four anglers, so it should feel nicely uncrowded.
- The water is a mix of named pools and lively streams. Plenty of variety, whether you fancy working a pool or searching the quicker water.
- Wading is described as decent, but take a stick. The South Tyne can have a bit of push, and steady footing makes life a lot easier.
- It’s primarily a brown-trout fishery. The official beat sheet also describes the water as productive for salmon and sea trout, though the permitted species listed here are brown trout.
- Fly fishing only, and brown trout fishing is available from 22 March to 31 May. That gives you a tidy spring window to target the trout.
- The upstream boundary is a marker post on the bank at Birketts. Downstream, look for the posts on both banks.
- Access is from the Coanwood/Lanehead turning off the A689, roughly a mile east of Halton Lea Gate. Parking is at Lambley Farm.
- The setting is private and scenic, with accommodation available at Lambley Farm. Handy if you fancy making a proper trip of it rather than a quick chuck.
- Keep it tidy and considerate. Follow the individual beat rules, return your catch details to the Trust, and remember the non-refundable booking policy.
Methods: Fly fishing only, working the pools and streams with careful wading. A wading stick is advised, and all fishing is catch and release.
