We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- This is a deeper, slower stretch rather than a frantic, shallow-water job. Good news if you like settling in and working a swim properly.
- BAA recommends swimfeeder tactics here, so that’s the obvious starting point. Get a bit of bait going and fish the crease or the steadier water.
- Roach and bream are the main named species for the Wood Norton area. Bream especially should suit the deeper-water character.
- Chub and barbel can be found below Charlton Weir, giving the lower section a bit more grunt and something different to look for.
- Access is from the A44 west of Evesham. The fishery car-park entrance is between Chadbury roundabout and the Wood Norton Hotel.
- BAA gives WR11 4TD for the venue, along with coordinates 52.118008, -1.973818. Handy enough for the sat-nav, bob on.
- The surrounding Avon is described as suitable for swimfeeder fishing, with deeper and slower water. That points towards a patient approach rather than racing through pegs.
- There’s no Wood Norton day ticket. Fishing is through BAA membership, so sort that before travelling and avoid an unnecessary faff at the car park.
- Night fishing is expressly prohibited at Wood Norton. It’s a daytime-only job, even though BAA does offer night permits on some other waters.
- Membership runs from 1 January to 31 December of the current year. You’ll also need the appropriate Environment Agency licence and must follow BAA bye-laws.
Methods: Swimfeeder tactics are the clear shout, fishing the deeper, slower water with a steady, patient approach. Keep an eye on the quieter water and the crease, especially when targeting roach and bream.
