Goosey at Olney is a proper varied bit of the Great Ouse, with four distinct sections: Pensioner’s, the main river, Rushie and the backwater. It’s run by Olney & Clifton Fishing Association, with predator water, perchy features and quieter tench and chub swims in the mix.

Elton Fishery, River Nene

Elton Fishery is a limited, members-only syndicate stretch on the River Nene, run by Peterborough & District Angling Association. It runs from a field above the backwater to Nassington Road bridge, with the backwater and part of the Willow Book included.

River Welland Several Fishery
River Welland · Day ticket
The Several Fishery is a DSJAC-run day-ticket stretch on the River Welland, running from Market Deeping through Deeping St James to Kenulphs Stone. It’s a proper club-owned section with tickets covering any DSJAC Nene or Welland river venue on the day.

Houghton, Wyton & Hemingford - Backwaters
River Great Ouse · Members only
A proper flowing Great Ouse backwater from below Four Gate sluice at California down to the Bailey Bridge, or Black Bridge. It’s coarse fishing with very little boat traffic — bob on for a quieter session around Houghton and the Hemingfords.

Harrold Upper

Harrold Upper is a quiet, lightly fished bit of the Great Ouse run by Olney & Clifton Fishing Association. It joins Harrold Lower to make roughly a mile of continuous fishable bank on the OCFA ticket.

Harrold-Odell Country Park – River Great Ouse

A permit-only bit of the Great Ouse inside Harrold-Odell Country Park. Your permit also covers the permissible fishing waters on Grebe Lake and Kingfisher Lake, so there’s a decent bit of water to get your head around.

A cracking bit of P&D AA water, covering the Castor Backwater from Castor Weir to Water Newton Lock, plus connected main-river sections. There’s open water, wooded cover, barbel swims and plenty of room to go exploring.

A proper old-school Welland match stretch around Spalding, running from Four Mile Bar downstream to Spalding Yacht Club. It’s a lowland, fenland venue with big shoals of roach and bream, plus plenty of weed to keep you busy.

A cracking club-run stretch of the River Great Ouse, from above Four Gate sluice down to Houghton Lock, with more sections below. It’s navigable, boat-trafficked in summer and offers proper coarse fishing for members.

Kempston is a mixed-fishery stretch of the Great Ouse, run by Vauxhall Angling Club. There’s barbel in selected swims, decent chub throughout, plus plenty of silver fish in the mix.

Kempston Mill to Kempston Church is a proper mixed-fish stretch on the Great Ouse, run by Vauxhall Angling Club. There’s barbel in selected swims, decent chub throughout, and silver fish that can turn up in big numbers.

Alwalton, River Nene

Alwalton is a cracking River Nene fishery around the lock, weir, backwaters and main river. It’s a proper barbel hotspot, with chub, silver fish and pike adding plenty of variety.

A cracking 1.5-mile slice of the Welland, starting at Harringworth Viaduct and split into upper, middle and lower sections. It’s secluded, varied and mainly a wild brown trout fly-fishing job, with some proper depth up top.

Lavendon Mill (Upstream)
River Great Ouse · Members only
A proper wide, deep and quiet-looking upstream section of the River Great Ouse, tucked between Olney and Turvey. It’s a members-only Luton Angling Club fishery, with night fishing allowed and plenty of room across four fields above the old Lavendon Mill.

Lammas Meadow, River Great Ouse at Little Paxton

Lammas Meadow is the upstream section of Shefford and District Angling Association’s Little Paxton Ouse fishery. It’s riparian meadowland near St Neots, with shoals of bream the headline feature.

Lavendon Mill (Downstream)

Lavendon Mill Downstream is a shallower, weedy River Great Ouse section between Olney and Turvey, run by Luton Angling Club. There’s a decent flow for most of the year and a proper mix of barbel, carp, pike and roach to go at.

Kempston Mill to Queens Park is Vauxhall Angling Club water on the River Great Ouse, with membership required. It’s described as a mixed fishery, with very good chub throughout and silver fish sometimes present in large quantities.

Lavendon Mill is a proper two-part Great Ouse venue, split by the weir and run by Olney & Clifton Fishing Association. It looks nicely underfished, with deep water, faster shallows, reeds and some serious fishy potential.

A long, broad and slow-flowing fenland stretch from Four Mile Bar down to Spalding Yacht Club. It’s a heavily weeded Welland venue with big shoals of bream and roach, plus night fishing allowed — proper old-school match water that’s quieter these days.

Lavendon Road is a largely untouched River Great Ouse stretch with a proper mix of water, from the lively pipe peg at Longlands to the wider, slower Beanfield. It’s a day-ticket water with a cheeky chance of carp, pike and some serious silverfish bags.

Littleport (LAA) / Littleport–Ten Mile Bank, River Great Ouse

Littleport/Ten Mile Bank is a huge LAA stretch on the River Great Ouse, running for over 14 miles between Littleport and Ten Mile Bank. It’s wide, slow and deep, with plenty of water to explore and good bream, roach, pike, zander and perch on the cards.

Little Paxton is a cracking SDAA stretch on the Great Ouse, with roughly two miles of bank to explore. There’s a navigable arm, a big weir pool packed with options, and wider water downstream where the two arms join back up.

Finding somewhere to fish near you
Type a town, county or fish into the box up top — something like “Nottingham”, “carp Nottinghamshire” or “day ticket River Trent” — and we'll pull up the waters we've checked nearest that spot. Around Nottingham, for example, you'll find canal stretches, the tidal-free middle Trent and plenty of commercial lakes within a short drive.
Every listing tells you the stuff you actually need before you load the car: what's in each lake or stretch, whether it's a day ticket, club or syndicate water, the house rules and what a ticket costs when we last checked. Rules and prices change, so always give the fishery or club a quick shout before you go.
Rivers, canals and stillwaters fish completely differently. Lakes reward a bit of watercraft and steady feeding; rivers are all about flow, depth and level, so we show live river levels where we can. Use the water-type and fish filters to narrow it down, then open a venue for the lake-by-lake or stretch-by-stretch lowdown.
