The Foy Fishery
Foy Fishery is a cracking just-over-one-mile double-bank salmon beat on the Middle Wye, made up of the old Foy Bridge and The Creel beats. It’s bookable as one combined beat from 15 March to 15 June, with four named pools and a proper mix of water to explore.

We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- The fishery brings together Foy Bridge and The Creel, giving you just over a mile of double-bank fishing. Plenty of room to stretch your legs and find a likely-looking lie.
- There are four named salmon pools: Bridge Pool, Lyndor Pool, the Pulpit and Church Stream. Each has its own character, so it isn’t just a case of flogging one swim all day.
- Bridge Pool has mid-river lies reached by wading over gravel from either bank. The Run is quicker water tucked close to the right bank — a spot worth keeping an eye on when the river has a bit of colour.
- Lyndor Pool is the deeper number, with the better-looking lies towards the middle of the river. Expect some wading if you want to cover the water properly.
- The Pulpit is a long pool and is best fished from the right bank. Church Stream mainly runs around the right-hand side of an island, giving the beat another change of pace and angle.
- The bed is generally gravel and wading is described as relatively easy, but don’t get casual when the river lifts. Medium and higher flows need proper care, and the rights-holder recommends a wading stick.
- Some areas suit the fly in medium flows, while other sections can be tackled with a spinner. Pick the approach to the flow and the water in front of you rather than forcing one method.
- The beat has been lightly fished for salmon in recent times, and the fishery page highlights its spring salmon potential. The combined booking applies from 15 March to 15 June inclusive.
- Outside that spring window, salmon anglers must fish only the individual beat booked. The official page lists a maximum of three tickets per day, so it’s not a crowded free-for-all.
Methods: Fly fishing is suitable in some areas at medium flows, while other sections can be fished with a spinner. Expect to wade for some of the lies, especially around Bridge Pool.

Coarse fishing on English rivers is closed from 15 March to 15 June inclusive. That's the law for coarse fish on rivers — it's not a club rule, and game-fishing seasons work differently.
