We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open River Ready
The lowdown
- This is proper middle-Wye water, with a mix of salmon fishing and coarse sport. A handy all-rounder rather than a tiny little club stretch.
- The passport describes about three-quarters of a mile of double-bank fishing. That gives you both banks to work, with plenty of room to spread out when the river’s busy.
- The riverbed is gravel and the beat is suitable for wading. Still, keep your eyes on the flow and don’t go charging about — the Wye can move when it’s carrying a bit of colour.
- Salmon anglers can fish with fly or spinner. The official availability is up to two salmon rods per day, so this looks more like a quiet, focused salmon session than a crowded free-for-all.
- Coarse anglers have up to three rods per day available. Barbel and chub are the named targets, with dace, pike and grayling also listed for the water.
- For barbel and chub, the gravel runs and steady glides are the obvious places to explore. A feeder or a bait presented tight to the crease should be worth a look when the river’s on the munch.
- The beat has good access via a track right down to the water’s edge. Bob on for shifting kit, although the official material doesn’t give a dedicated car-park postcode.
- Fishing is catch-and-release only. Dogs are allowed too, but they need to be kept under control — especially around anglers and wading water.
- The official material does not confirm night fishing, so treat this as a daylight ticket unless the Fishing Passport says otherwise when booking.
Methods: Salmon anglers can use fly or spinner, while coarse anglers can target barbel and chub with feeder tactics or close-in presentations around the gravel runs and crease. Wading is suitable on the gravel bed.
