Manor Farm, Wasperton

Plan a session

Manor Farm at Wasperton is a shallow Warwickshire Avon stretch with a deeper downstream end, plenty of summer weed and reed, and a proper mix of chub, roach, perch, pike, barbel and the odd trout. It’s mainly a light-float sort of place, with access by car to selected pegs when the ground behaves.

Nearest EA gauge we've matched — it isn't on this stretch, so levels on your peg will differ.

We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open Warwick on Live River Levels

The lowdown

  • This is a relatively shallow bit of the Avon, so light float tackle is the natural game. Keep things neat and mobile rather than lugging a load of kit.
  • The downstream end offers deeper water, making it worth exploring if the upper section is clear and skinny. That change in depth could be the key to finding fish.
  • Upstream, summer brings considerable weed and reed growth. Expect a few swims to be framed by green stuff, with lanes and gaps worth picking apart.
  • Chub, roach and perch are the main float-fishing sort of targets named for the stretch. Trotting a float through the flow should be right in the mix.
  • Barbel are also named, so don’t rule out a slightly sturdier approach where the river pushes on or the bottom drops away. A feeder could cover those deeper bits.
  • Pike are present too. They give you another option when the float fishing goes quiet, especially around cover and the deeper downstream water.
  • Occasional trout are reported, adding a cheeky bit of variety to the catch list. Keep an eye on faster, cleaner-looking water.
  • You can drive along the bank to your chosen peg when conditions allow, which is bob on for carrying tackle. In wet weather, though, the track can turn rutted and muddy.
  • There are upstream and downstream car parks. The upstream one is at CV35 8EB; close the gate part way along each access track after you’ve gone through.

Methods: Light float tackle is the main shout, with trotting well suited to the shallower river. A feeder is worth considering for the deeper downstream water and the barbel.
