A tidy 400-yard run of the River Great Ouse, wrapped around Bradwell Lake and run by Milton Keynes Angling Association. It’s a silver-fish venue with proper bonus chub, perch and pike in the mix.

A proper little wild-trout gem at Ketton, run by GAAFFS as dedicated fly-fishing water. Natural, unspoilt and generally uncrowded, with brown trout doing their thing and the odd cheeky chub showing on the fly.

Ten Mile Bank, River Great Ouse

Ten Mile Bank is a proper mature, attractive Great Ouse stretch run by Kings Lynn Angling Association. It’s deep and slow, with water running from roughly 9 to 20 feet and access on both banks around Denver, Wissey Mouth, Railway Bridge, Modney Bridge and Danby Drove.

Great Ouse Relief Channel — Denver Sluice to Saddlebow

A proper big, open fenland run from Denver Sluice to Saddlebow, with roughly 10 miles of Relief Channel to explore. It’s known for big bream, plus roach, predators and plenty of changing water to keep you thinking.

Riverside Caravan and Camping Park, Littleport — River Great Ouse

A proper Fenland river stretch beside Riverside Caravan and Camping Park in Littleport, run by the London Anglers’ Association. It’s wide, straight, slow and deep, with big bream bags on offer plus quality roach, pike, zander and perch.

A huge LAA-controlled slice of the Great Ouse around Littleport and Ten Mile Bank, running for over 14 miles. It’s mostly fishable, with good bream bags, quality roach fishing and plenty of room for a proper wander.

Relief Channel, River Great Ouse

The Relief Channel is a long, broad engineered flood-relief and drainage waterway between the Denver area and King’s Lynn. King’s Lynn Angling Association runs sections of it, with access points around Downham Market, Denver Sluice and Magdalen Bridge.

A broad, tidal Great Ouse stretch around Downham Bridge and the riverbanks west of Downham Market. Proper open fenland fishing, with raised banks, public foot access and plenty of room to work the flow.

Corbridge Riverside Sports Club River Tyne South Bank and Dilston Beats

A cracking three-mile slice of south-bank Tyne, run by Corbridge Riverside Sports Club and taking in the famous Dilston Beats. It’s mainly salmon and sea-trout water, with plenty of varied river character and no public day tickets.

Splashpole

Splashpole is a cracking bit of newly acquired Great Ouse water south of Olney, with a weir, fast water, a big upper section and a shallow backwater. It’s had minimal angling pressure historically, so there’s plenty to have a proper look at.

St Neots Camping and Caravanning Club Site fishing stretch, River Great Ouse
River Great Ouse · Day ticket
A handy Club-owned fishing stretch on the Great Ouse at St Neots Camping and Caravanning Club Site. It’s a quiet, rural spot about a mile from St Neots town centre, with fishing available from 16 June until the site closes.

St Ives River Great Ouse

A proper club-run slice of the Great Ouse around St Ives and Hemingford Grey, with five named sections, platforms and pegs. Membership and day-ticket anglers can fish it, with roach and bream a big part of the attraction.

Stafford Bridge, Pavenham

Stafford Bridge at Pavenham is a cracking, varied Great Ouse stretch run by Phoenix Angling Club. It runs for just under a mile immediately downstream of the bridge, with quicker water up top, a wooded meander through the middle and slower, deeper stuff towards the bottom.

Stony Stratford Ouse / Passenham Meadow (Stony Stratford–Old Stratford)
River Great Ouse · Day ticket or members
A proper mixed Upper Great Ouse venue run by Milton Keynes Angling Association, with meadow banks, faster glides, deeper water, a weir and a flood-prone backwater. Stony Stratford Ouse and Passenham Meadow offer plenty to go at, from quality roach and big perch to hefty bream and chub.

Stony Ouse / Passenham Meadow (Long Meadow)

A cracking pair of MKAA sections around Stony Stratford: the Stony Ouse runs from Old Stratford up to the weir, while Passenham Meadow adds just under a mile of Upper Great Ouse. Expect proper meadow fishing, with bends, deeper bits, shallow runs and plenty of overhanging willow cover.

A cracking run of River Great Ouse water around Tempsford, with four named sections: School Meadow, Anchor Meadow, Pylon Meadows and The Jungle. It’s membership water controlled by Biggleswade & Hitchin Angling Association, with roughly 2,650 yards of bank space in total.

Hesleyside Eals Beat

Hesleyside Eals is a cracking 2-kilometre, right-bank-only beat on the North Tyne, with beautiful countryside downstream from Kielder dam. It’s fly fishing only, day-ticket water, and limited to two anglers.

The Rec

The Rec is one of Olney & Clifton Fishing Association’s best-known waters on the Great Ouse at Olney. It’s a proper mixed stretch, with deep carp water, gravel beds, Chub Alley and some lovely-looking river features.

The Quay, St Ives

The Quay is a proper town-centre Great Ouse spot, with a paved riverside promenade beside historic St Ives. Passing boats and tourist riverboats are part of the scene, so it’s a lively bit of water rather than a quiet, hidden-away swim.

The Roxtons / Roxton Fisheries A–D

The Roxtons are a cracking set of LAA stretches on the Great Ouse near Roxton and Tempsford. You get varied river, slower water, bridge swims and a proper weir pool in Roxton D, with barbel, chub, bream and roach all in the mix.

The Twins

The Twins is the Buckingham & District Angling Association’s Maids Moreton Poor Charity Field venue on the Great Ouse. Day tickets are available, but you’ll need to sort one in advance and parking close to the field is still being worked on.

Chesters Trout Beat
River Tyne · Day ticket
Chesters is a cracking little brown trout beat on the River North Tyne, sitting below Chollerford Weir and running towards Walwick Grange. It’s day-ticket water through the Tyne Angling Passport, with both banks included and 1.2 km of proper scenic fishing.

A cracking two-mile River Wear stretch near Durham City, with a mile of fishing either side of Finchale Abbey. It’s Abbey-bank only, with day tickets available and a proper mix of streamy runs, glides and deeper holes.

Finding somewhere to fish near you
Type a town, county or fish into the box up top — something like “Nottingham”, “carp Nottinghamshire” or “day ticket River Trent” — and we'll pull up the waters we've checked nearest that spot. Around Nottingham, for example, you'll find canal stretches, the tidal-free middle Trent and plenty of commercial lakes within a short drive.
Every listing tells you the stuff you actually need before you load the car: what's in each lake or stretch, whether it's a day ticket, club or syndicate water, the house rules and what a ticket costs when we last checked. Rules and prices change, so always give the fishery or club a quick shout before you go.
Rivers, canals and stillwaters fish completely differently. Lakes reward a bit of watercraft and steady feeding; rivers are all about flow, depth and level, so we show live river levels where we can. Use the water-type and fish filters to narrow it down, then open a venue for the lake-by-lake or stretch-by-stretch lowdown.
