We don't publish an "ideal level" — nobody can promise one. Flood water is dangerous: if it's up and coloured, stay well back from the edge. Open Bellingham on Live River Levels

The lowdown
- The beat starts at Stobbs Bridge and runs downstream to Bagraw Farm, where the limit is marked by a post on the left bank.
- Fishing is available on the left bank only, so keep that in mind when planning your approach and getting parked up.
- It’s a mix of open water and proper tricky overhanging trees. There should be plenty to keep you thinking as you work along the beat.
- Wading is described as moderate and fairly shallow. Still, take care in the flow and pick your crossings sensibly.
- This is a useful bit of water for anglers developing their trout-fishing skills. Ideal for sharpening up a fly, reading the crease and covering likely lies.
- Brown trout are the principal species. Sea trout may be present, with the occasional salmon also turning up.
- Brown-trout fishing runs from 22 March to 30 September. Sea-trout fishing is available from 3 April to 31 October, while salmon fishing runs from 1 February to 31 October.
- The River Rede is a major tributary of the North Tyne, and its flow is regulated by the Catcleugh reservoir system. That gives the wider river a managed character rather than a totally wild, rain-led flow.
- Parking is on the left side of Stobbs Bridge. For a brew and something to eat afterwards, Camien Café in nearby Rochester has refreshments available.
- Only two anglers can fish the beat at once, so it’s a quiet, uncrowded setup. Bob on for a focused session rather than a busy day hopping between packed pegs.
Methods: Fly fishing only, with moderate and fairly shallow wading. Work the open water and tricky tree-lined sections carefully, covering likely trout lies and the crease.
